Abstract

556,218. Windows. MERCHANT TRADING CO., Ltd. (Fletcher, K. M.). March 20, 1942, No. 3709. [Class 20 (iii)] A glazing unit for the indirect lighting of a building comprises a hollow triangular prismatic structure mounted with a non triangular side on a correspondingly shaped roof or wall opening, the light entering through a non-triangular glazed side such as 17 which is directed towards the North in the northern hemisphere, while the remaining sides 16 and the top 15 of the structure are opaque so as to exclude direct light. The unit may be applied to a roof whether flat or curved, and to window apertures in vertical walls, and entails no change in the design of the roof support. The edges of the base of the unit are out-turned at 18 to lie on the sheet 13 forming part of the roof. Fig. 11 shows a plurality of units 11 applied to the outer vertical sides of a roof lantern 29. Specification 983/15, [Class 20 (iii)], is referred to.
