Abstract
556,109. Shock absorbers. LORD MANUFACTURING CO. March 11, 1942, No. 3218. Convention date, Feb. 11, 1941. [Class 108 (iii)] Engines, such as aeroplane engines, mounted in an overhung manner by means of a number of flexible rubber joints are given additional flexibility to allow pitch and yaw movements more readily than torque movements, by providing pivots between the rubber joint and the engine and frame. Two rubber elements 8 are interposed between the two faces of the casing 6 and the two faces of the interior plate 7 having extensions to the exterior forming forks 12 carrying the pivot pin 16 mounted in the shank 18, roller bearings 15 being employed. A similar connection to an engine bracket 31 is provided by forks 24 on the casing 6. One rubber element may be made larger than the other to compensate for the apertures passing the forks 12.
