Abstract

555,858. Plastic compositions. BROWN, S. N. May 15, 1942, No. 6604. [Classes 22 and 70] A rubber substitute is made by mixing 20 per cent. of asphalt which may include tar or pitch, 20 per cent. of gelatine or glue, 23 of water, and lesser amounts of mineral oil, boiled linseed oil, tung oil, oleic acid, sulphonated castor oil, phenol, copal resin, gum thus, hard paraffin, vegetable gelatine, methylene oxide, zinc chloride, chloride of lime, chrome alum, and inert materials, e.g. wood meal, calcium carbonate, and silicious material. Acetic or formic acid is added to bring the pH value to 5 to 6. The mixture may be moulded or used with laminated material, and heated up to 90‹C., and may be vulcanized.
