Abstract
555,584. Winding tubes of paper &c. MICANTTE & INSULATORS CO., Ltd., and NEVARD, M. S. Feb. 25, 1942, No. 2485. [Class 99 (ii)] Small laminated tubes of paper, fabric &c. are wound by engaging a mandrel, to which the sheet of material has been attached, between a travelling surface and a non-travelling surface, so that the mandrel is caused to roll on both surfaces and on the sheet of material. In the form shown, the mandrel with the attached resin-impregnated sheet is placed in a groove 11 in a rotating drum 5, so as to pass under a pressure plate 22 held in position above the drum by a parallel motion comprising bell cranks 19 connected by a link 21 and balanced by a weighted lever 24. The wound tube is then detached by a take-off device 13. The drum, feed table 12, and pressure plate may be electrically heated. In a modification the pressure plate may be beneath the drum and serve as a feed table. For thin tubes a flat pressure plate may suffice, and for making non-circular tubes the surface of the pressure plate may be wavy or corrugated, so that the tube may roll without lifting the plate.
