Abstract
555,433. Dye preparations; local coloration of textiles. DIXON, N., ROBINSON, R. S., and GLOVER & CO., Ltd., W. T. April 15, 1942, No. 4989. À [Classes 2 (iii) and 15 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXVI] An electric cable with a textile outer covering coated and filled with opaque paint has localised markings formed by colouring matter in part of the textile covering permeating the paint so as to be visible on the exterior of the cable. The dyestuff may impregnate the textile covering or be incorporated with or loaded into a vehicle and it may dissolve in or combine with the paint medium. The dyestuff permeates the paint during the drying of the cable in a heated chamber. The braiding' machine may carry one or more bobbins of dyed yarn to give one or more helical lines of colour, or a treated longitudinal tape or bunch of yarn may be laid up with the cable to provide a straight line or marking so as to indicate when the cable becomes twisted. The following examples of dyestuffs are given :-(1) for impregnating yarn or tape without a vehicle, "Waxoline" (Registered Trade Mark) Victoria Blue B.A. (2) Compounds for treating yearn, either "Waxoline" Black or Litho for Red with higher fatty acids and chlorinated naphthalene or paraffin wax, respectively. (3) An emulsion' for impregnating yarn consistingof awaterysolution of "Waxoline" Victoria Blue B.A. in potassium hydroxide with stearic acid and ethylene glycol. (4) A cord composition consisting of cellulose acetate with "Waxoline" Red IIIS with castor oil. (5) Solutions for treating yarn consisting of magenta in water or water and alcohol or cupric ammonium sulphate in water.
