[Class 36] [Also in Group XXII] A machine for splitting or opening the covering or armour of cables is constructed of a cutter J adjustably mounted in a carriage F which is moved over a bed A formed with a groove D on which the cable is secured by a screwed pointed spindle operated by a hand wheel a<SP>1</SP>. The carriage F is moved by engagement of a gear wheel operated by a handle L with a fixed rack E on the bed, and after the covering has been cut through once the cable is turned over and the other side of the armour severed. A shoot K is provided to collect the scrap metal. A number of cutters may operate simultaneously on separate cables.
