Abstract

553,941. Valves. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., and TREVASKIS, H. June 5, 1940, No. 9829. [Class 135] [Also in Group XXI] A valve device for controlling the admission of pressure air to and its exhaust from the cocking and like mechanisms of automatic guns, particularly those mounted on aircraft, comprises in combination (1) adjacent inlet and outlet chambers 1, 2, the chamber 1 containing a solid plunger 9 the cylindrical surface of which has longitudinal air grooves, and the chamber 2 having an outlet opening 30 and an exhaust opening 15 between which is situated a tubular plunger 16 having a spring 21 at one end and a sealing plug 17 at the other end, and (2) manually operating means in the form of a spring-controlled sleeve 13 formed with ribs 12, 22 rotatable about an axis extending between and at right angles to the chambers into contact with the recesses 11, 19 formed in the walls of the plungers. In the position shown, the rib 22 has raised the plunger 16 against the action of the spring 21 to permit exhaust of air through opening 15. On turning the sleeve in the clockwise direction against the action of its controlling spring, the rib 12 raises the plunger 9 to open the inlet valve 6 and the plunger 16 is moved by the spring 21 to close the exhaust passage 18.
