Abstract

553,935. Voice - frequency signalling. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. May 1, 1942, No. 5882. Convention date, April 19, 1941. [Class 40 (iv)] [Also in Group XL] A receiver for low frequency signals modulated on to voice frequency comprises a thermionic detector D coupled to a thermionic amplifier A through a resistance-condenser combination such as to ensure operation only after receipt of a number of low frequency pulses. In this way the amplifier is slowly unblocked at a rate which may be varied by varying the capacity of the condenser 11 and be such as to prevent unblocking of the amplifier by a transitory operation of the detector. The Specification gives data for a system operating at 1000 cycles interrupted at a frequency of 20 cycles. The secondary of the output transformer LF is tuned to 20 cycles by condenser 3 and retard coil 2 and the circuit completed by a rectifier 4 and relay 6.
