Abstract
553,869. Hand contact-appliances. DUBILIER CONDENSER CO. (1925), Ltd., and PAINE, P. M. Oct. 6, 1941, No. 12855. [Class 38 (i)] An appliance for making a temporary contact for testing, especially for high-voltage apparatus, comprises a pointed electrode D retracted by a spring F into an insulating casing which can be held in the hand. The electrode slides in a metal sleeve E to which a supply cable G is connected, the cable end G<SP>1</SP> and a flange E<SP>2</SP> on the sleeve being gripped between the two parts A, B of the casing. An insulating rod H slides in the casing and is moved by a trigger C<SP>1</SP> to cause the electrode to project from the casing. The trigger is associated with a hand grip C. In a modification the electrode is stationary and a shielding sleeve surrounding it is withdrawn against a spring when the electrode is to be exposed. The sleeve may have a locking device. A resistance may be incorporated in the appliance or, where condensers are to be tested, a second prod M connected to a lead M<SP>2</SP> may be provided for discharging the condenser. Alternatively, according to the Provisional Specification a two way switch may control the charging and discharging of a condenser.
