Abstract

553,448. Ethyl aniline. AMERICAN CYANAMID CO. Jan. 15, 1942, No. 630. Convention date, March 4, 1941. [Class 2 (iii)] Monoethylaniline is made by heating a mixture of one part of ethyl alcohol with 1-5 parts of aniline at 180-230‹C., preferably 200- 220‹C. in presence of sulphuric acid in sufficient amount to catalyse the reaction. The time is regulated not to exceed 2 hours for 230‹, 4 hours for 220‹, 8 hours for 210‹, 16 hours for 200‹, 32 hours for 190‹, and 64 hours for 180‹C.
