Abstract

552,488. Bullet-proof garments. RANDOLPH, H. B. Jan. 6, 1942, No. 193. [Class 141] [Also in Group XXXIII] Relates to flexible bullet-proof coverings for articles and appliances, such as the seats of aeroplanes, and to garments such as vests, and comprises a belt formed of a number of plates 2 of thin mangenese steel &c. which may be slightly domed at their centres, secured in pockets formed by sewing strips 5 of canvas &c. to a canvas &c. backing 4 and to one another, as shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 9 shows a bulletproof vest made up of a series of such belts secured in parallel relationship to the material of the vest, which is provided with a head opening 17 and fastening straps &c. 20, 21. The garment &c. may be formed of a number of layers of such coverings, and the plates in adjacent layers may overlap in opposite directions.
