Abstract
552,294. Diaphragm gauges. FERRANTI, Ltd., CLUDERAY, E. S., and DEAN, J. Aug. 29, 1941, No. 11028. [Class 106 (ii)] A fluid pressure responsive device includes one or more flexible diaphragms the wave formation of each of which is irregular as regards wavelength or amplitude oi both wavelength and amplitude, the wavelength formations of all diaphragms, where there are more .than one, being identical with one another, at least one of which diaphragms has a stop associated therewith to reduce or annul the effect of that diaphragm over a part of the range of the whole device, provided that any stop associated with the last diaphragm is of the flexible type. The invention is applied to an altimeter of conventional design except for the capsule. In Fig. 6 (a) the diaphragms have variable wavelength, in (b), the amplitude varies, and in (c), both wavelength and amplitude vary. Expansion of the lowest capsule in Fig. 2 is limited by an external stop 23, in Fig. 3 (a) by an internal stop 27. In Fig. 4 (b), the sensitivity of the upper capsule is reduced for the latter part of its expansion by a spring member 30, while in Fig. 5 (not shown), the spring 30 is combined with an internal stop.
