Abstract

551,703. Dyeing textiles. BLACKSHAW, H., LODGE, F., TATUM, W. W., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Sept. 3, 1941, No. 11252. [Classes 2 (iii) and 15 (ii)] Textile materials made of or containing cellulose acetate are dyed or printed by applying thereto a water-soluble salt of a 1 - amino - 2 - monosulphophenoxy- or mono - sulphophenylmercapto-anthraquinone substituted in 4-position by amino, alkylamino or hydroxyl, in which the 3-position is unsubstituted and in which the phenyl nucleus may be further substituted by chlorine, bromine, hydroxyl, alkoxyl, alkyl or cycloalkyl. Such salts are obtainable by reaction of an alkali metal phenate or thiophenate with the corresponding 4-substituted 2-chloro- or bromo-1- anthraquinone, sulphonation of the product under mild conditions and conversion of the sulphonic acid into the water-soluble salt. Specified dyestuffs are the sodium salts of 1 - amino - 4 - hydroxy - 2 - sulpho-phenoxy - or p - tolyloxy - anthraquinone, 1 - amino - 4 - hydroxy - 2 - sulpho - o - cyclohexylphenoxy - anthraquinone, 1 - amino - 4 - hydroxy - 2 - sulpho-o-anisyloxy-anthraquinone, 1-amino-4- methylamino - 2 - sulphophenoxy - anthraquinone, 1 : 4-diamino-2-sulpho-phenoxy- or o-chloro- or bromo-phenoxy-anthraquinone, 1- amino - 4 - hydroxy - 2 - sulpho - p - - tolylmercapto-anthraquinone and 1-amino-4-hydroxy- 2 - sulpho - p - hydroxyphenoxy - anthraquinone. Examples relate to the dyeing of cellulose acetate artificial silk yarn with the sodium salt of 1-amino-4-hydroxy-2-sulphophenoxy - anthraquinone (cf. Specification 26944/11), [Class 2 (iii)], and the printing of cellulose a,cetate artificial silk materials with an aqueous paste containing the sodium salt of 1 : 4 - diamino - 2 - sulphophenoxy-anthra - quinone (obtainable by sulphonating the reaction product from 2-bromo-1 : 4-diaminoanthraquinone and sodium phenate), sodium N-dibenzylsulphanilate, glycerol, crystal gum thickening, sodium m.-nitrohenzenesulphonate, pine oil and sulphonated sperm oil, and thereafter drying, steaming, rinsing and drying the print.
