Abstract
551,605. Aeroplane carrier vehicles. F ORD MOTOR CO, Ltd., and PAGE, E. May 15, 194 2' No. 6633. [Class 108 (i)] Means for the transport of aeroplanes comprise two wheeled units distanced apart to suit the wheel track of the aeroplane and articulated so as to b capable of rising and falling independently of each other and also capable of relative angular movement abour vertical and transverse axe, each of the aero plane wheels l being carried in a support pivote to the frame of one of the units. As shown in plane. Figs. la and 1b from 19.3.54 each unit is made selfsupporting and comprises two rear wheels e and one front wheel d, the units being coupled by rods a, b with ball-pointed connections and the tow-bar f being connected to track-rods g for steering the two units. Decking k is provided on each unit to support an aeroplane wheel (as shown in elevation Fig. 2b) a ramp m being provided for moving each wheel on to the decking and securing it by locking the ramp in an inclined position. The rear wheels e of each unit are mounted in triangular side-plates h pivoted on cross tube h<SP>1</SP>, the decking k being let down upon the ground by allowing it to pivot about the tubes h<SP>1</SP>, a hydraulic cam i i<SP>1</SP> being used to lift up the decking after the aeroplanes have been run on to it by means of the ram ; pawl and ratchet devices o o<SP>1</SP> Fig. 2b are provided at the pivot points of tubes h<SP>1</SP> to prevent downward movement in the event of failure of pressure in the ram.
