Abstract

551,569. Paper cutting apparatus. FANFOLD, Ltd., MURRAY, S. M., and BARBER, H. M. Dec. 12, 1941, No. 16053. [Class 31 (i)] Cutting apparatus comprises a serrated blade adapted to effect discontinuous or continuous cuts according to whether a part or the whole of the depth of the serrations is brought into operation, a support for the material to be cut and means for causing relative reciprocation between blade and support and for varying the depth of operation of the serations to produce discontinuous or continous cuts. The blade 1, which may have evenly arranged teeth 2 or serrations arranged in groups to produce grouped perforations, is clamped in a holder 3 having its ends 4, 5 guided for vertical movement in uprights 6, 7 and actuated by pivoted cam levers 18, 19 and an operating rod 22 which may be operated by hand or mechanically. Co-operating stops 28, 29 are allowed to contact when the blade is required to be depressed far enough to make a continous cut but if a discontinuous cut or row of perforations only is required a stop is put in the hole 27. Or, in the case of mechanical operation, Fig. 3, where the rod 22 is operated by a rod 36, lever 35 and cam 30, the cam peak 31 is such as to cause a continuous cut and the peaks 32, 33 are such as to cause discontinous cut, an additional adjustment being provided by the threaded sleeve 39. The cutter holder 3 is raised after each operation by springs 23, 24 and the material is stripped off the blades by spring pressed stripper plates 12, 13, a row of spring pins 25 in the base plate 8 preventing jamming of the work in the blade co-operating slot 9.
