[Class 40 (i)] [Also in Groups XX, XIX, XXI and XXXVI] The movements of the member 1 of a seismograph or gravimeter are exaggerated by providing compression springs 4, 5 acting on the member in opposite directions in a line normally at right angles to the direction of movement. The movement may be measured by measuring the change in capacitance between a disc 16 carried by the member 1 and a fixed disc 17. Alternatively the voltage required to be applied to the discs 10, 11 to bring member 1 to its zero position may be measured.
