Abstract

550,323. Gas analysis. GAS LIGHT & COKE CO., and GOODERHAM, W. J. June 27, 1941, No. 8128. Addition to 489,117. [Class 1 (i)] Apparatus for volumetric gas analysis comprises a series of calibrated tubes 12 and absorbers 31 alternately arranged, means 25 for forming a soap film across each calibrated tube, and means 27 for stopping the flow through each calibrated tube and diverting it to the following absorber. The gas to be analysed is passed through the apparatus for a definite time, after which the flow is simultaneously diverted from all the calibrators, and the positions of the soap films in the calibrators then indicate the relative volumes of the gas after each absorption stage. The soap film is initiated by raising the vessel of soap solution 25 into contact with the inlet 18 of the calibrator and then lowering it again. In its raised position the soap solution seals the inlet of the calibrator, while a skirt 27 attached to the bottom of vessel 25 is lifted out of mercury seal 23 thus admitting the gas directly to the absorber through byepass 28. All the vessels 25 are simultaneously manipulated by raising support 34.
