Abstract

550,318. Photo cells. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd., and RUFF, H. R. Jan. 18, 1940, Nos. 1105 and 12350. [Class 39 (i)] In a photo cell a frusto-conical cathode 1, Fig. 2, is surrounded by a ring anode 2 supported by its lead-in wire. The cathode may be in the form of a coating on the pinch 3, Fig. 3, the support wire 8 for the anode carries a capsule 9 of an alkali-such as caesium-for forming the cathode, whose base may be antimony evaporated from a filament 12. The-leading-in wires to the anode and cathode all pass through the pinch. Specifications 300,917, [Class 39 (i)], and 340,527 are referred to.
