Abstract

549,904. Rubber compositions. HENLEY'S TYRE & RUBBER CO., Ltd., and STANLEY, H. T. June 11, 1941, No. 7373. [Class 70] [Also in Group XXXIV] An outer-cover is formed by mixing lumps of hard and soft unvulcanized rubber intimately, forming to shape, and vulcanizing the shaped product. The divisions between the different kinds of rubber may be sharp as illustrated in Fig. 1, the harder rubber being shown by the grey patches, or may be gradual passing through zones of intermediate qualities, as shown in Fig. 2. The hard rubber is caused to predominate in the tread portion and the soft rubber in the sides of the tyre. The cover may be formed from stips of hard and soft rubber from both of which portions are punched out, these portions not registering when the strips are superposed, so that when rolled together under pressure a composite body without holes is formed. The different rubbers may be mixed in a machine and extruded therefrom to form a cover which is subsequently vulcanized.
