[Class 106 (ii)] [Also in Group XXIII] A linear-dimension and micrometer gauge or like measuring tool for machine shop work and analagous purposes comprises a flat metal bar with graduations along it, a lateral work-engaging jaw normally fixed but readily detachably connected to one end of such bar, means at such end of the bar to receive and locate an extension bar or supplementary gauge member, a co-operating adjustable work-engaging jaw relatively adjustably carried by a body slidable along said bar, a micrometer carried by said body and a stop or abutment fixed in relation to said adjustable jaw adapted to co-operate with said micrometer for locating the adjustable jaw to fine settings on the said bar, means to transverse said adjustable jaw relatively to said body to effect said relative adjustment, and means carried by said body to lock it readily to said bar at predetermined measured distances indicated by said graduations for rapid coarse adjustments. The jaw 3 is normally fixed while the jaw 4 is mounted to slide on the bar 1. A guide block 11 carries a micrometer 10 and is arranged to be locked to the bar 1 by key 12 engaging one of the notches 16. Rack 17 and pinion 18 provide means for adjusting the position of jaw 4 relative to the micrometer, the pencil of which is adjusted to abut against projection 8. The jaw 4 can be fixed in adjusted position by set screw 20. Jaw 3 can be detached and an extension 26, Fig. 5, of suitable length can be connected to the bar, rigid locking being achieved by the engagement of grooves 28, 29, with a set screw passing through the holes 1a, 26a. Jaw 33 may be fixed or detachable jaw 3 may be replaced by a scribing block (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown), attached in the same manner as the extension 26. The jaws may carry collars 3a, Fig. 6, for attaching devices such as dividers 22, fine checks or , jennies.
