Abstract

549,243. Electrically-tripped switches ; electromagnetic switches. ASSOCIATED ELECTRIC LABORATORIES, Inc. May 10, 1941, No. 6086. Convention date, May 13, 1940. [Class 38 (v)] A number of unit electromagnetic switches 26 arranged one behind the other on a support 12 can only be operated when a master electromagnet 17 is energized ; they are then individually operable through momentary operation of a switch 64, are mechanically latched in their operated positions, and are later all restored to their original positions by de-energization of the master electromagnet 17. Each unit electromagnet 26 is adapted to attract an armature 31 thereby releasing a contact rod 40, which falls on to a V-shaped notch in a common fixed contact plate 39 thereby closing the circuit to a lamp 68. The end 45 co-operates with the end of the armature 31 to hold it in the attracted position. When the master electromagnet is deenergized its armature 25, pivots about 21 under the action of a spring 36 and pushes the armatures 31 back into the position shown. The master electromagnet 17 is energized when a switch 61 is closed and its armature serves to close a maintaining circuit through contacts 48, 50 and a resistance 62 and break the original energizing circuit at 49, 50.
