Abstract
548,285. Yarns. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd. April 1, 1941. No. 4353. Convention date, April 12, 1940. [Class 120 (iii)] A continuous filament yarn is converted into one containing staple fibres by passing it from a device which balloons it and inserts a twist therein into contact with an abrasive member which is contacted by the yarn continuously during the ballooning and to a take-up device above the twisting means, means being provided for regulating the ballooning of the yarn so as to control the abrasion thereof. As shown the yarn 5 from an uptwisting spindle 7 passes to the take-up device 15, 16 through guides 22, 21, 9 and an abrasive disc 18. The guide 22 is of ring form and the guide 22, 21 and the wire holder 27 for the abrasive disc are adjustable in horizontal planes in holders 26, 25, 24 which are vertically adjustable on a rod 27 fixed to a bar 4 carrying the guide 9.
