Abstract
548,273. Subaqueous signalling apparatus. HARRISON, F. Dec. 20, 1940, No. 10789/42. Divided out of 548,245, [Group XXXIX]. [Class 118 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXIX] An instrument of telephonic type, for transmitting or receiving speech &c. through water, has an armature 1 connected to a conical diaphragm 6, the magnet 24 being completely encased (e.g. in a moulded mass 55) with the exception of small parts of the pole-pieces, the arrangement being such that water has free access to both sides of the diaphragm and armature, all metal parts in contact with the water being protected, e.g. by electroplating. The magnet and armature may be constructed as in Specification 548,245, and the magnet may be adjusted by a screw 25 connected by a universal joint 56 to a member 57 passing through a gland in the casing 51. The diaphragm is connected at its periphery to the chassis by spaced strips of corrugated metal. The pole-pieces and armature are connected in circuit with a battery and lamp, which glows if the armature touches the pole-pieces.
