[Classes 91 and 95] [Also in Group IV] A wrinkling drying oil is prepared by dehydrating castor oil by heating, without oxidation, at a 'temperature of about 500‹ to 525‹ F. for about 2¢ to 3 hours, and oxidizing the product by blowing, preferably at a temperature of 350‹ to 400‹ F. Dehydrating agents e.g. alkali metal hydroxides, sulphur or halogen compounds may be present during the dehydration treatment. The blown dehydrated oil may be mixed with a drier and a thinner to produce a wrinkle coating composition. The drier may be cobalt naphthanate, linoleate, resinate, or acetate dispersed in turpentine, mineral spirits, or a mixture thereof. Resins, e.g. oil-modified phenolformaldehyde resins, alkyd resins, oil-modified alkyl resins or congo or kauri, pigments, vegetable drying oils, and texture modifying ingredients such as asbestine, and fatty acids may be incorporated in the compositions. In examples: (1) a varnish is prepared by mixing blown dehydrated castor oil with toluol or xylol and a liquid drier consisting of cobalt linoleate, wood oil fatty acids and toluol, xylol. petroleum naphtha or turpentine ; (2) a composition comprising blown dehydrated castor oil, a cobalt drier and toluol is blended with a varnish consisting of an oil-modified phenol-formaldhyde resin, lead acetate, dehydrated castor oil, xylol and toluol; (3) blown or partially oxidized blended with raw, blown or partially oxidized linseed, perilla or soya bean oil, lead acetate, oil-modified phenol-formaldehyde resin, and toluol or xylol; (4) blown dehydrated castor oil is mixed with oil-modified phenol-formaldehyde resin, lead acetate cobalt drier, xylol and toluol. The compositions may be adapted to air dry to a wrinkle finish by the incorporation of aroyl peroxides such as benzoyl peroxides, or may be baked and subjected to infra red radiation to produce the finish. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, a wrinkling drying oil comprises a blown dehydrated oil of the non- conjugated type, and a drying oil product is prepared by heating castor oil to effect dehydration, esterifying the product by reacting with glycerine or a similar polyhydric alcohol, and then condensing the ester with phthalic anhydride. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
