[Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iii)] [Also in Group XXIII] End-facing; grinding.-A tool for reshaping or reconditioning the ends of a pair of co-operating welding electrodes in situ in a welding machine comprises axially spaced revolvable members insertable between the electrodes in the retracted position of the latter and yieldably urged into engagement with the electrodes, and means for rotating the members relatively to the electrodes. The tool may comprise a pair of members 14, 15 pressed apart by a spring 20 and having recesses for containing cylindrical inserts either provided with inclined cutters or surfaces 26 for dressing the conical portions 13 of the truncated conical ends of the electrodes 10, 11 or with abrasive material 261 to dress the flat operative ends of the electrodes. The member 14 is keyed to the member 15 and provided with enlargements 18 engaging a screwed cap 19 on the member 15. The member 15 is formed as a pulley on which is wound a cord 32 for rotating the tool. The tool is collapsed for insertion between the electrodes by a pair of tongs each limb of which is bifurcated so as to receive the electrodes between the bifurcations. In a modification the tool consists of grinding discs 41, 45 respectively secured by nuts 43, 46 against flanges 40, 44 on a shouldered plunger 37 and on a sleeve 39, the plunger and sleeve being normally held apart by a spring 47. The plunger 37 is provided with a pin 48 extending through slots in the opposite walls of the sleeve 39. A pulley 42 is secured to the plunger 37 between the disc 41 and nut 43. The plunger and sleeve are placed respectively in holes 50, 51 in electrode supporting brackets 36.
