[Class 42 ii)] A machine for folding or bunching narrow web material such as elastics, braid, webbing or tape in zig-zag form comprises two sets of fingers d, e normally disposed in staggered relation along parallel lines between which the web material may be drawn as shown in Fig. 3, and mechanism whereby the fingers of at least one set may in succession be caused to move through the spaces between the fingers of the opposed set, thereby gathering the material into a series of loops, Fig. 4, which are bound together to form the bundle or package required. The fixed fingers d are carried on two shafts c while the movable fingers e are pivoted on the upper shaft c and are provided with tension springs f, Fig. 1. The lower ends of the fingers e engage a stop bar g, which is recessed at g<SP>1</SP> to allow movement of the fingers until arrested by an abutment bar h. In operation all the movable fingers e are held back by the stop bar g and the material, clipped at k, Fig. 2, extended through the fixed and movable fingers as in Fig. 3. A crank g<SP>2</SP> is then engaged with a leading screw g<SP>3</SP> to traverse the stop bar g, thus releasing the movable fingers in succession so that each under its spring action draws a loop of the'material which is passed forward by a friction pulley i<SP>1</SP>. When all the fingers have been released the folded material is engaged by a recess l<SP>2</SP> in a clamp l slidable along a pivot bar. A sliding plate l<SP>3</SP> is moved to cover the recess l<SP>2</SP> and the tension in the loops eased by moving a cross bar j<SP>2</SP> against the fingers e. The material is then disengaged from the fingers by turning the clamp l about the pivot bar, the clamp is slid to the right to bring the projecting portions of the bundle against a stop bracket m after which elastic bands may be applied, the plate l<SP>3</SP> slid back and the finished bundle removed from the machine.
