Abstract
546,719. Moulding lampshades. ROWLEY GALLERY, Ltd., and ROWLEY, L. A. J. March 5, 1941, Nos. 2996/41 and 2868/42. [Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Group XI] A lampshade is made'by heavily impregnating a fabric with starch or other stiffening medium and moulding the material while still wet by stretching it over a patrix on which it is allowed to remain until dry. Alternatively the fabric may be moulded between a matrix and a patrix. The rim of the shade after removal may be strengthened by being bent inwardly or outwardly or crimping, or a wire, wood or fibre reinforcement may be attached by stitching, sewing or gluing. The edge of the hole by which the shade is attached to a lamp socket may be strengthened by a metal ring. The shade may be coated with a fire-proofing solution and then varnished to render it moisture proof. Finally a covering of artificial silk cut on the bias and preferably of an ornamental nature may be added.
