546,031. Cooking stoves. TURLEY & WILLIAMS, Ltd., SMITH, C. D., and OTTON, D. H. Dec. 20, 1940, No. 17973/40 and 4660/41. [Classes 39 (iii), 75 (i) and 126] In a cooker heated by gas, liquid fuel or electricity the heating unit is mounted on a folding or collapsable frame so that it can be raised above the level of the hot plate to act as a griller for food placed below it or lowered to heat utensils placed above it on the hot plate. Figs. 1 and 3 show a grill frame 3 fitted with a. removable frame 4 and supported on a base frame 1 by crossed links 7, 8 having pivot connections with the frames 1 and 3 at their left ends and pin-and-slot connections at their right ends so that by operating a lever 14 the grill-frame. can be raised to various heights above the hot plate 2. Springs 11 assist the upward movement of the grill frame. The burner 17 having a hinged supply.pipe 24 is supported by pins 18 on the links 7, 8 and guided by pins 19 on the frame 3. In the raised position the flames burn above and in the lower position below a flame deflector plate 5 supported by flanges 6 on the frame 3. A filler plate 20a mounted on the links 7, 8 closes the opening in the hot plate when the frame 3 is in the raised position. Fig. 4 shows a burner ring a formed with a gas passage 25 for heating a pan, kettle &c. placed in a frame 40 and a gas passage 26 for heating a grilling pan slidable in grooves 39 in side frames 38. The burner ring is fitted with a deflector plate 41 and is supported by adjustable cross links 27. The gas injector nozzle is mounted on a pipe 34 which is free to turn so that when the burner is in its boiling position the gas is delivered into the upper passage 25 and when the burner is in its grilling position the gas is delivered into the lower passage 26. The heating unit may alternatively be mounted on telescopic legs and be raised or lowered by a hydraulic device. When applied to an electric cooker the movement upwards of the griller may effect a switch-over of the electrical connection from the hot plate elements to the griller elements.
