Abstract
545,906. Shock-absorbers. DOWTY EQUIPMENT, Ltd., (formerly AIRCRAFT COMPONENTS. Ltd.), and BOUND, R. H. Oct. 16, 1940, No. 15354. [Class 108 (iii)] A telescopic shock absorber for resisting tension loads in which a hollow plunger enters a cylinder is so constructed that when subjected to tension, liquid flows from the annular space between the two main elements past means for throttling into the plunger against the resistance of air trapped therein. The annular space 12 is limited by the piston 9 on the upper end of the hollow plunger 5, and the packing 6, 7 at the lower end of the cylinder 1. When subject to tension liquid is forced from the annular space 12 through the ports 14, 15, 16 and past the one way lift valve 17 into the plunger 5 which contains air 20 under pressure forced in through inflation valve 21. The return flow of oil through orifices 17E, lifting valve 17C, and through a restricted orifice 17F thus byepassing the lift valve 17, is assisted by the compressed air.
