Abstract
545,901. Developing photographic films. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. (Naamlooze Vennootschap Philips' Gloeilampenfabrieken). May 24, 1940, No. 9200. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Nov. 28, 1940.] [Class 98 (ii)] A film, e.g. of regenerated cellulose or of superficially-saponified acetyl cellulose, liable to deformation when wetted, is wound for development &c. in a single layer on a support having an invariable diameter and provided with a helical rib for separating the turns, and forces are exerted upon the film having a component directed towards the axis of the support to maintain the film thereon and prevent relative movement during treatment. The support may be a drum 1, having a helical rib 5 forming a track for the film 2, and rotatable in a shallow dish of arcuate section or in a cylinder which completely encloses the drum. The film may be wound on the drum under tension sufficient to ensure that it will still remain taut if it expands when wetted, and be held by end-clips at 6, 7 ; or it may be maintained on the drum by suction applied through holes in the drum from a duct in the drum-shaft. The developer may be a physical developer, e.g. metol, tartaric acid, and silver nitrate, whose quantity and composition are correlated to the area of film to be developed and the desired density of image. The material physically developed may be an exposed diazotype. Reference is made to Specification 512,527.
