Abstract

545,624. Centrifugal dust separators. DIXON, M. G. (Prat-Daniel Corporation). Dec. 1, 1941, No. 15439. [Class 23] Dust is separated from gases in a centrifugal separator of the multiple-unit type, in which each unit 12 consists of a cylindrical tube 13 open at the bottom and having a closed top through which passes an axial tube 17 forming an outlet for the cleaned gases. Two tangential inlets 19 are provided at diametrically opposite points on the tube 13, and the aggregate width of the inlet openings is greater than the distance between the tubes 13, 17. The length of the inlets is more than one third of the distance from the lower end of the tube 13 to the upper end of the inlets. The units are set in plates 14, 16 and the gas is supplied at the end 11 of the chamber thus formed. The separated dust is expelled from the lower ends of the tubes 13 and collects in the hopper 26 from which it can be discharged when the valve 27 is operated. The clean gas passes from the tubes 17 to the chamber 22. To equalize the gas distribution between the units, the outlet tubes 17 may have caps 23 with central apertures. those nearest the supply having the smallest apertures. In a modification the caps 23 are placed at the lower ends of the outlet tubes 17 and the units may be arranged in short rows in the separator, the rows farther from the supply being placed closer together than those nearer to it.
