544,853. Purifying water. PERMUTIT CO., Ltd. (Permutit Co.). Oct. 29, 1940, No. 15823. [Class 46] Anion-exchange material which has been regenerated by treatment with an alkaline medium is rinsed with water containing a weak acid or an anhydride thereof. Carbonic acid, acetic acid and lactic acid are suitable acids. The rinsing water may be a water containing alkalinity in which the carbonates have been converted into free CO 2 , while the other salts have not been converted into acids. Water which has been treated as described in Specification 497,943 is suitable. The pH value of the rinsing water is preferably from 4 to 6.
