Abstract
544,373. Tobacco-cutting machines. LANGRISH, H. W., and MOLINS MACHINE CO., Ltd. Oct. 7, 1940, No. 14964. [Class 5 (i)] [Also in Groups VI, XXIII and XXX] The knives 4 rotate clockwisely to cut a cheese of tobacco issuing from the mouth 5, and a scraper or abrasive 7 also rotates clockwisely and engages the knife edge (or a portion paralel therewith, as the back of the knife) along the whole of the length thereof. The scraper &c. 7 is fixed to a block 11 pivoted at 8 on an arm 9 fixed on a shaft 10 rotated from the knife carrier shaft 2. The block 11 is capable of slight movement about the pin 8 against the tension of a spring. The Specification contains directions for determining the position of the shaft 10. The scraper &c. 7 may make five revolutions to two of, the knife carrier, so that each of the five knives is scraped or ground during each second revolution of the carrier. Figs. 9 to 11 show different forms of the element 7; in Fig. 9 the element scrapes the knife edge and the back of the knife; in Fig. 10 it scrapes the back of the knife; and in Fig. 11 it scrapes the knife edge and the front of the knife. The Provisional Specification refers to Specification 426,493, and states that the invention may be applied to removing articles from conveyers.
