Abstract

543,957. Filters. BRASSERT & CO., Ltd., H. A. (Brassert & Co., H. A.). Feb. 5, 1941, No. 1525 [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Aug. 6, 1940.] [Class 46] A rotary filter drum 18, arranged for inward filtration and cleansing by reverse flow through a longitudinal section of the drum, has a wall of substantial thickness with openings 38 fitted with conical filters members 51 having their apices directed outwardly and lying within the exterior contour of the drum wall. The filter members are secured in position by screwed sleeves 45. Fig. 4 shows a form comprising two wire-mesh cones with a medium such as cloth, paper, diatomaecous earth or fine wire mesh between. In Fig. 5, two cones projecting in opposite direction are shown, the inner cone being of finer mesh than the outer. Wire mesh sprayed with glass or porcelain to give a smooth surface to which suspended strips will not adhere, may be used. The drum 18 is mounted by spiders 20, 21 on a shaft 22 supported by a roller bearing 24 and engaging a guide bearing 26 at the lower end. The drum is rotated by a motor 31 and gear 29 meshing with a gear ring 27 on the drum. The flow is inward through the drum from an inlet 12 to an outlet 13, and there is a reverse cleaning flow of liquid from the inside to a channel, formed between walls 33, 34, with an outlet 35.
