Abstract
543,823. Electric heating pad. UNITED STATES RUBBER CO. April 4, 1941, No. 4514. Convention date, April 24, 1940. [Class 39 (iii)] A flexible electric heating unit, adapted for use in a pad comprises a sheet of flexible non- metallic material provided with a coating of conducting composition and with conducting wires along two opposite edges. The pad may contain two units 2, 3 each comprising a fabric sheet coated by dipping, painting, or spraying with a composition containing rubber 100 parts, carbon black 85 parts, zinc oxide 15 parts, anti-' oxidant 0.75 parts, accelerator 2 parts, deodorant 0.1 part, softener 7 parts, vulcanizer 0.75 parts, gasoline 1500 parts. The fabric may be of cotton, asbestos, rayon, or woven glass, or a sheet of rubber may be used as a base, or the composition may itself comprise the sheet. The edges of the sheet are turned over at 7 and vulcanized. The units 2, 3 may be of different resistances and may be connected to a switch 14 which allows either to be used separately, or the two in parallel or series. A thermostat 11 may be included in the circuit. The units are enclosed between woven sheets 18, 19, 20, of cotton, asbestos, or glass, treated with an ordinary rubber composition, and the whole may be enclosed in a fabric envelope 21.
