Abstract
543,616. Type-printing telegraphy. CREED & GO., Ltd:, and GRIFFITH, R. G. Sept. 4, 1940, No. 13851. [Class 40 (iii)] Telegraph apparatus comprising an answer-back and a release key, for controlling the transmission of a signal to release the answer-back at the distant station, is so arranged that the operation of the release key prevents the release of the local answer-back irrespective of whether the key is released or held operated. To this end the mechanism 66, 68, 97 shown in Fig. 3 of Specification 461,753 is modified as shown. The answer-back drum 59, instead of being released by a detent attached to the lever 66 which is rotated on the receipt of a " who-are-you " signal, is engaged by a pawl 68b pivoted at 88a and secured to a detent lever 68a normally engaged by the lever 66. When the release key 1a is depressed, latch 97b raises the lever 68a out of engagement with lever 66. Lever 68a is retained in this position by catch 100 engaging lug 102, so that movement of lever 66, due to the depression of the key 1a, does not release the answerback 59. This movement of lever 66 does however release the catch 100 and restores the latch 97b if the key 1a has been released, so that the next movement of lever 66, in response to a " who-are-you signal received from the other station, releases the answer-back.
