Convention date, June 19, 1939 [Class 140] Wood and cork are waterproofed by impregnation first with a solution comprising a mixture of water-soluble salts of a fatty acid and a fatty hydroxy-acid and then with a solution of a metallic salt which reacts with the fatty acids to form water in soluble metallic soaps. The example describes immersing wood in a solution of sodium palmitate and sodium ricinoleate in a mixture of methyl alcohol and monochlorobenzene, partially drying, immersing in a solution of aluminium chlorate in ethyl alcohol and finally drying.
