Abstract
543,143. Indiarubber compositions helmets. WALKER, R., OWEN, E. W. B., and MILES, Ltd., H. G. May 7, 1940, Nos. 8184 and 11546. [Class 70] [Also in Group VII] Hard rubber articles such as protective helmets are formed by moulding and vulcanizing obtained by masticating smoked rubber sheet with a woven or textile fabric which may be that contained in rubberized tyre cord or hose trimmings. The mastication reduces the fabric to fibres. Fillers, softening, compounding and vulcanizing ingredients may be incorporated. The helmets may have cushions of sponge rubber secured to the outer and inner surfaces adjacent to the edge to reduce concussion. According to the second Provisional Specification the composition may consist of rubber mixed with fibres of wool, cotton, sisal or asbestos or with synthetic fibres.
