Abstract
542,349. Yarns and threads. UNITED STATES RUBBER CO. May 28, 1941, No. 6844. Convention date, July 27, 1940. [Class 120 (iii)] [Also in Group VIII] A knitted fire - repellent asbestos fabric comprises a central layer of laid-in strands S and knitted loops 25 of yarns interlocked about the strands and forming a soft surface upon both faces of the fabric. The fabric is knitted upon a two-bed warp machine, the strand S being laid in position between the two needle beds, and the warp yarns to be knitted being supplied to and knitted by the needles of one bed at a time. The knitted loops are formed of asbestos yarns not heavier than a 20 cut/1 yarn and are knitted at least twelve wales to the inch upon each face of the fabric. The strand S may be formed of one or more asbestos rovings, having a weight at least as heavy,as a 10 cut yarn so that the resultant fabric is more than 05 inches thick, and may be strengthened, prior to use, by an asbestos thread T united thereto along its length. It may also have a small strengthening yarn or thread of cotton arranged as a core.
