Abstract
542,214. Forging screws &c. HOLO-KROME SCREW CORPORATION. May 9, 1940, No. 8392. Convention date, May 26, 1939. [Class 83 (iv)] [Also in Group XXIII] Screws &c. with sockets for receiving a driver have the sockets. formed with radial slots therefor so shaped as to produce surfaces in the bottom of the socket in which the driver wedges. The head may be formed by a preliminary upsetting to the shape shown in Fig. 1 and a central conical depression is formed by a punch 6 that also forms at 8 the annular surface of the screw head surrounding the socket. Radial slots 18 are producer by ribs 14 on a punch, Fig. 4a the bottoms of the slots being convex so as to approach parallelism with the axis at the bottom of the socket. The bottoms of the slots 16 in the punch do not contact with the metal of the screw. The screwdriver has the same shape as the punch except that it is shorter so as not to bottom in the socket. In a modification the section of the punch and driver is shaped as in Fig. 10 ; and in this case the large depression formed by the part 7, Fig. 1, of the punch is not required although a smaller preliminary depression may be formed if desired.
