[Class 40 (iv)] In a moving-coil transducer, e.g. a pick-up, the magnetic path is completed through a moving magnetic member not subject to appreciable flux variation, e.g. by designing the magnetic member so that it is magnetically saturated. The magnetic member 4 may be a short tube (with a solid end) carrying a coil 5 and mounted on a tensioned strip 8. By proportioning the size and mass of the member 4 and the stylus holder 9, the whole moving system may be balanced about the axis of the strip 8, and by adjusting the tension of the strip 8 the natural resonance of the system can be controlled. The constancy of the flux can be further improved by making the exterior of the wall of the tube spherical and of a height greater than the vertical thickness of the poletips. In a modification, Fig. 1 (not shown), the moving magnetic member is shaped to form a stylus, which may be mechanically linked to the bridge of a violin or the lip or reed of a wind instrument. Specification 256,280, [Class 40 (iv)], is referred to. Further slight modifications are described in the Provisional Specification.
