Abstract

541,280. Silos. CALKIN, G. R., and WIGGINS & CO. (HAMMERSMITH), Ltd. Aug. 16, 1940, Nos. 13123/40, 141/41 and 4478/41. [Class 20 (i)] A silo for green fodder is built up of a number of sheets 1 of galvanized iron or flexible asbestos cement set up in overlapping relation by the aid of retaining devices to form a ring of plates around which straining devices in the form of wires or bands 8 are secured whereby the pressed fodder in the silo holds the sheets against the straining devices. An additional ring or rings of plates may be arranged above the lowest ring. A covering of boarding and thatch may be applied. In building up the silo pegs 2 are inserted in the ground and the curved plates set up against these in overlapping relation and retained in position by strips 5 having holes 7 engaging the edge of the inner plate, or by hinged wire clips engaging the edges of the plates. Straining wires or strips 8 with looped ends are then applied around the plates and secured by a staple through the loops. If an upper ring of struts is to be applied these are supported by S-hooks from the upper edge of the lower ring.
