Abstract
541,152. Gas scrubbers. PEABODY ENGINEERING CORPORATION. May 13, 1940, Nos. 8606 and 8607. Convention dates, May 12, 1939, and Sept. 12, 1939. [Class 55 (ii)] Gas enters a primary cleaning zone 20 of the scrubber 10 through a tangential inlet 16, and is given a rotary motion by which the larger particles are thrown out and are discharged through a drain 12, the gas passing to a secondary cleaning zone 21 in which it is forced at high velocity through openings 23 in a plate 22, and is projected against baffles 26, water sprayed from rotating jets 56 below the plates being carried through the openings as shown in Fig. 4. Curved vanes 70 through which the gas then passes give it a rotary movement by which liquid particles are flung out against the walls 10 and 14, the liquid being drained off through a pipe 77. The spraying device is mounted in a cover 42 and may be removed as a unit through the opening 44. The effective area of the perforated plate 22 and the velocity of the gases through the perforations are controlled by a plate 62 supported in channels 63 and adapted to close off and cover a selected number of orifices 23. In modifications, the single perforated plate is replaced by separate plates arranged in an annular space and with separate sets of deflecting baffles over them. Angularly movable dampers may be used to replace the sliding damper above described. Specification 397,870 is referred to
