Abstract

540,810. Electric battery lamps. BECKER, C. A., and SIMMONDS, L. E. July 27, 1940, No. 12223. [Class 39 (ii)] Battery torches using primary cells are provided with external connections on the casing to the poles of the battery so that it may be de-polarized by submitting it to a charging current without removing it from the casing. In the form shown in the Figure, a contact strip 7 in connection with the positive pole of the cell 2 is taken out to a socket fitting 8 mounted on the casing and insulated therefrom. For "charging," the torch is clipped on to a charging board so that a clip connected to one terminal of the charging source engages around the casing and the socket engages a plug on the board connected to the other charging terminal. In a modification, the positive pole of the cell is connected by a lead to a metal band surrounding the middle of the casing and insulated therefrom.
