Abstract

540.606. Packaging, WINGFOOT CORPORATION. April 16, 1940, No. 6867. Convention date, Aug. 2, 1939. [Class 94 (i)] Relates to a method of packaging substances in a film of material which is rendered stretchable and self-sealing by heat, and consists in shaping the heated film by fluid pressure, enclosing in the shaped film the substance to be packed, and allowing the film to contract while warm or causing it to contract by the application of heat. Preferably the film is made of rubber hydrochloride, but vinyl derivatives may be used. The film 2. Fig. 1, may be shaped by spreading it over the mouth of a chamber 1, and clamping it in place by a ring 3. The film is then warmed and is stretched, to conform to the inner wall of the chamber, either by directing an air jet against its outer surface or by applying suction to the interior of the chamber.
