Abstract

540,447. Casting composite furniture frames. RUBERY, OWEN & CO., Ltd., and HAYES, W. T. March 1, 1940, No. 3841. [Class 83 (i)] [Also in Group XIV] A chair, table, stand, or the like comprises a number of legs, mainly or entirely of metal, having their upper ends grouped together and secured to a cast base. The legs may comprise section bars or tubes 11 closed at their upper ends by plugs 12 or by flattening &c. and a base 13 of zinc base alloy may be die-cast about them and, if desired, also about a tube 14 into which an externally tapered nut may be driven so as to receive a screw-spindle attached to a seat. The ends of the tubes may be formed externally with flats or roughened or perforated to key with the cast base which may have an inverted cup shape 15, Fig. 3, the wall being outwardly extended at 17 in star form to accommodate the legs 11.
