[Class 31 (i)] A machine for bevelling &c. the edges of cards &c. comprises two disc cutters 30 driven by belt gearing, electric motors &c. and mounted in sleeves 19 pivotally adjustable about pivots 22 on carriers 16 vertically adjustable on carriages 12 which can be adjusted closer together or farther apart according to the width of the card along a beam 11, the card being fed by feed rolls 61, 63 between guides 73 having angled rear portions 79, 80 into the corners of which the disc cutters reach. In the construction shown the cutters are driven from a driving shaft 39 by means of pulleys 42, belts 44, pulleys 43, gears 45, pulleys 49 and belts 51 passing around pulleys 27 on shafts having worms engaging worm wheels 29 on the cutter spindles and also looped around pulleys 50 and 52 the latter with a suspended weight 53 to keep the belts 51 taut when the carriages 12 are adjusted nearer together or farther apart. For making this adjustment each carriage 12 has a lug 31 carrying a pinion 33 engaging a rack 34 on the beam 11, the pinion being mounted on a square headed spindle 32 for rotating it ; locking of each carriage 12 is effected by rotating a screw 36 threading into a taper block 37 engaging a slot with sloping edges 38. The sleeves 19 supporting the cutter spindles are formed with quadrants 21 slotted at 23 to engage screw studs 24 for securing them in adjusted position about the pivots 2 and the sleeve carriers 16 are vertically adjustable in the carriages 12 by screws 17. The card guides 73 have side wings with front flanges 74 adjustable along the front of the machine table 72 by bolts 75 and wing nuts.
