Abstract

540,186. Valves. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. June 14, 1940, No. 10345. Convention date, June 16, 1939. [Class 135] A non-return valve assembly particularly adapted for use with reciprocating fluid compressors comprises a lift valve member 16 adapted to co-operate with an annular seat 19 on a member 24 nearly filling the bore of the cylinder 11 and provided with a spindle 18 passing through the valve port to the other side of a valve seat plate 12 where it is secured to a blade spring 20 which both supports and loads the valve member. The spring 20 is anchored at one end to the plate 12 by a bolt 27, a tapered plate being fitted at 28 to equalize the bending stresses. At the other end a stop member 31 is attached to the spring by a bolt 33. The opening of the valve is limited by a stop 30 clamped between the end of the valve spindle and the spring and adapted to contact the plate 12. The valve may be held open by a spring loaded unloader arm rendered inoperative oy the pressure in the lubricating system of the compressor as described in Specification 459,616, [Group XXVIII]. The space 34 between the periphery of the member 24 and the cylinder wall forms the discharge passage and is controlled by a circular flap valve held in place between the members 24, 12 by peening the end of a collar in the member 24 over a shoulder 23 formed in the passage through the plate 12.
