Abstract

539,519. Treating textiles with liquids ; dyeing &c. processes and apparatus ; artificial silk. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd. March 12, 1940, No. 4609. Convention date, March 14, 1939. [Classes 2 (ii), 15 (i) and 15 (ii)] A knitted fabric is treated with an aqueous liquid while in open width and under longitudinal tension while being free to shrink in width and it is subsequently subjected to a liquid treatment such as a scouring, saponifying, de-lustring or dyeing treatment while on a winch or otherwise in folded form. The preliminary treatment removes the tendency of the material to become permanently creased during the subsequent treatment in folded form. The process is particularly applicable to the treatment of cellulose acetate or other cellulose ester or ether fabrics particularly warp-knitted fabrics. The preliminary treatment liquid may contain soap or other wetting agent and it may be used at a raised temperature. After the preliminary treatment the fabric may be dried wholly or partially and then sewn into tubular form preparatory to the treatment in rope form on the winch. As shown, the knitted fabric 1 is drawn from a batch 2 in open width over opening or spreader bars 5, 6, and into tank 7 containing warm water. The fabric passes -round rolls 8-11, and out of the bath. It passes over a spreader bar 12 and a suction extractor 13, and is wound on a shell 14 which is positively rotated. Specification 338,190, [Class 15 (ii)], is referred to.
