Abstract
539,440. Gas-producers; ashpits ; grates. C.U.R.A. PATENTS, Ltd., and HALES, J. S. March 7, 1940, Nos. 4312 and 8396. [Classes 51 (i) and 55 (i)] 'Air, which may be moistened by a water vaporizer 33, is heated in the space between a jacket 32 and the fuel container 11, and passes through openings 23 to the space below an annular ribbed fuel support 22, entering the fuel through a central opening. The gases are withdrawn to an outlet 20 through a conical member 19 which supports the fuel in the hopper 16, and leaves an annular space 21 through which the fuel is fed downwards, the larger pieces tending to pass towards the axis of the chamber while the smaller pieces remain near the periphery. The ashes are discharged by a solid slightly conical grate 28 rotated by a handle 30, fixed scraper blades 31 directing the ashes into the ashpit. A starting nozzle 34 projects into the reaction chamber, and admits air when starting up the fire. Specifications 28936/12, [Class 51 (ii)], and 199,695, [Class 55 (i)], are referred to.
